At 2 months, your baby is becoming more alert and social — which means they stay awake longer. Sleep is still unpredictable, night waking is normal, and there's plenty you can do to gently shape better habits.
| Parameter | 2 Months | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Number of naps | 4–5 per day | Still no predictable schedule |
| Wake window | 60–90 minutes | Increasing from 60 to 90 by end of month |
| Night wakings | 2–4 times | Completely normal at this age |
| Longest night stretch | 3–5 hours | Usually the first stretch after bedtime |
Use wake windows, not the clock. Adjust based on your baby's actual wake time.
| Time | Activity |
|---|---|
| 7:00 AM | Wake, feed |
| 8:15 AM | Nap 1 (45–90 min) |
| 9:30 AM | Feed, play, tummy time |
| 10:45 AM | Nap 2 (45–90 min) |
| 12:00 PM | Feed, outing |
| 1:30 PM | Nap 3 (60–90 min) |
| 3:00 PM | Feed, awake time |
| 4:30 PM | Nap 4 (45–60 min) |
| 5:30 PM | Feed, bath, wind down |
| 6:45 PM | Nap 5 short bridge (30 min) |
| 8:00 PM | Night sleep (2–3 night feeds expected) |
Day: bright light, normal noise, active interaction. Night: dark, quiet, minimal stimulation during feeds. This accelerates circadian rhythm development.
55–65 dB of continuous white noise. Mimics the womb environment and masks household sounds that wake baby at cycle transitions.
Bath → feed → song → dark room. 10–15 minutes maximum. Consistency of sequence matters more than length.
End the routine, put baby down while eyes are still partially open. If they fuss immediately, help them. Just the attempt counts — it starts building the neural pathway for self-settling.
At 2 months, contact naps are common and normal. Try transferring to the crib 15 minutes after falling asleep (when they're in deeper sleep and arms relax). Warm the crib mattress first — cold surfaces often trigger waking.
Full sleep training isn't recommended before 4–5 months — the brain isn't ready. But drowsy-but-awake practice and a consistent bedtime routine are appropriate now and create great foundations.
Baby Sleep Planner calculates the exact wake window for your baby's age and tells you when to start the sleep routine.
